Joe McDonough

About Me

I am a fifth year PhD candidate at the University of Minnesota, interested in algebraic combinatorics and commutative algebra. My advisor is Pasha Pylyavskyy.

I graduated from San Diego State University in 2021, where I worked with Christopher O'Neill on problems relating to numerical semigroups and polyhedral geometry.

Recent Activities

• (Summer 2026) I presented a poster at FPSAC 2026.
• (Summer 2026) I was a TA for the UMN Combinatorics REU.
• (Spring 2026) I spoke in the UMN combinatorics seminar.
• (Fall 2025 - present) I am organizing the Graduate Online Combinatorics Colloquium (GOCC) with Dmitris Bogiokas, Mitsuki Hanada, and Bailee Zacovic
• (Fall 2025) I spoke at the AMS Southeastern Sectional at Tulane University.
• (Fall 2024 - present) I am organizing the Directed Reading Program at UMN with Aaron Li, Anastasia Nathanson, and Anthony Nguyen.
